Tax and Residency
Understanding your tax position in Spain and planning your affairs accordingly.
In collaboration with our partners at Manor Tax Services, we provide tax advice and services to help you successfully navigate the Spanish tax system.
Wealth and Inheritance Tax
Spain's wealth tax and inheritance tax vary considerably depending on the region you live in, and the national solidarity tax can apply to larger estates in regions where wealth tax is reduced or exempt. We help you understand how these taxes apply to your circumstances and develop strategies to reduce them, so that more of your wealth is passed on to your beneficiaries as you intend.
Beckham Regime
We offer guidance on the Beckham Law, a special tax regime for people who move to Spain to work, including employees, remote workers and certain entrepreneurs and company directors.
Tax Benefits for Expats: Under the Beckham regime, Spanish employment income is taxed at a flat rate of 24% on the first €600,000, and most income from outside Spain is not taxed in Spain at all. Wealth tax also applies only to your assets in Spain rather than your worldwide assets. The regime lasts for the year you arrive and the following five tax years.
Eligibility and Application: To qualify, you must not have been tax resident in Spain in the previous five years, and the application must be made within six months of registering with Spanish social security. Together with our tax partners, we assess whether you're eligible and manage the application so it's completed correctly and on time.
Transitioning out of Beckham: When the regime comes to an end, you'll be taxed on your worldwide income and assets like any other Spanish resident. We help you prepare for this in advance, so your pensions, investments and savings are arranged as tax-efficiently as possible before the change.
Cross-border Taxation
For those with assets or income in multiple countries, we provide comprehensive cross-border tax planning to ensure compliance while optimising your global tax position. This includes how your UK pensions, rental income and savings are taxed once you're Spanish resident, and how the UK–Spain double tax agreement applies. Many people are surprised to find that ISAs and some UK investments lose their tax advantages when they move to Spain
Overseas Asset Declarations
Spanish residents with assets abroad above certain thresholds must declare them each year on the Modelo 720, and on the Modelo 721 for crypto assets held overseas. We help you understand what needs to be declared and work with Manor Tax Services to make sure it's done correctly.
UK and Spanish Inheritance Tax
If you've moved from the UK, your estate may still be subject to UK inheritance tax for several years after leaving, depending on how long you lived there, as well as Spanish inheritance tax. From April 2027, most unused UK pensions will also fall within the scope of UK inheritance tax. We look at both systems together so you understand where your family could be exposed and what can be done about it.
